Pointers for Situational Writing

Dear 6B,

Please look through all the formats for writing.

  1. Announcement/speech- EXAMPLE: Good morning, classmates! In view of the swine flu, I urge all of you to be more vigilant and wash your hands with soap and water. (Need not sign off)
  2. Email- Show "To. Cc. Bcc. Subject" (Refer to your SW worksheets)
  3. Letter: Remember how to write the address. Informal letter - no sender's address. Formal letter -sender's address followed by recipient's address. Date should be above all the addresses. Remember to sign off... if it's informal, can use "Cheers", "Love" etc. Formal, we use "Yours faithfully", "Yours sincerely". Do remember to conclude with" Thank you for your kind attention and I look forward to your reply." etc...
  4. Diary -similar to letter-writing, without address. May not need to sign off.
  5. Report - should have a heading. EXAMPLE: Re: Man falls from height End off with: Reported by: Gina Tay
  6. Postcard - Write address to the right of the page.

***Remember to check for 6 content marks and answer the 6 questions asked before trying the paper.
