I think because it would help us learn one more language and it helps improve it. It is because many of us are only good at chinese and some in chinese.
I think it would help as being at home can talk without worries of saying the wrong words but being at school can lead to embarrassment.Being at home speaking Mandarin helps to build up the courage needed to speak Mandarin.
I think it will help us speak Chinese better because we have to improve our chinese as we will need it for PSLE or we will not be able to go to a good school.
I think it is important as more and more people and learning Mandarin and someday it may even overthrow English for the most spoken language. So, we must always learn Chinese by speaking it more and writing it more. or signing up for a Calligraphy class.
I think speaking Mandarin at home will help. It is important to speak Mandarin these days. So we need to speak Mandarin at home to improve our pronunciation.
I think speaking mandarin at home would definitely help as we could learn and speak and the same time . Mandarin is very important nowadays and hence we should frequently speak it to improve it . And now Chinese is so important that it is needed to get into a good school so we should more or less speak Chinese to improve our language .
My views on whether speaking in madarin at home can help in bilingualism
I think that speaking mandirin at home helps in bilingualism as English can be taught and learnt easily and the pronounciation of a word in english can be pronounced even if someone do not knows the word , but Chinese characters require fundamental knowledge which parents need to impart to when they speak Chinese at home.
I think that speaking Chinese at home helps as talking a language improves pronounciation and makes you want to learn more vocabulary. Plus, speaking Chinese at home will make you feel more at ease as you will not be laughed at by your family members.
yes is because it will help in our oral as it is important.it can also help us to interact with other people from china who mainly do not know how to speak English.it can also improve our mandarin Chinese also requires you to know how to pronounce the word.English you can guess or "tikam" but not Chinese.
On the other hand, you might know how to say the word but not how to write.so it will become a problem over time and the problem will not be solved so easily.
I think speaking Mandarin at home will help improve our Chinese launguage. But speaking Mandarin is not enough for us to improve. We must practice the chinese character and know its meaning well. Though speaking Mandarin at home helps us in our Chinese,we must be careful that it does not overthrow our English launguage.
I think it will help as it improves our Chinese. English can be taught and learnt easier than Chinese. Chinese is as important as English, so we should speak mandarin at home and learnt English in school. It will benefit us in exams and when we grow up.

It might not help as the parents may speak the wrong Chinese or add some English to it.For instance, some people use English+Chinese when they say "小明您的school bag在那里"(Litte ming, where is your school bag)So you see, it doesn't teach the child but let the child say wrong chinese.
Maybe Minister Mentor Lee does not want us , Singaporean kids to get chinese confused with other languages such as cantonese or hokien. Such words are : bo (don't have), mai(not) etc. However, i do think chinese is important, being one of the subjects that will be tested is PSLE. Though me myself isn't very good in chinese, i will still try my best to get at least an A for chinese -.- jyjy ! : Jeline Foo

I think that speaking Mandarin at home is very important. If our parents speaks to us in english at home. Our chinese will be very bad. If one of our parents speaks chinese, and the other speaks english, we would speak more english than chinese. I believe that if both parents speak chinese at home, we can learn english in school. Allowing us to be balanced up. Chinese is as important as english, if we do not do well for our chinese, it would be difficult to communicate with other people from other countries. Now in school we start learning singlish which will affect our speach and even affect our ambition unless you want to be doing jobs like sweeping floors and other jobs that do not need you to speak proper english. If you want to work overseas like in China or other country, you need to know the language they speak there at your finger tips. We cannot risk not learning Mandarin!!!
I think that speaking Mandarin will help us to improve our Chinese. It is very important to speak Mandarin now.We must not only speak Mandarin but must learn how to write and pronounce the word properly.
I think that speaking mandarin at home helps to promote bilingualism. If you do not practice speaking mandarin, your pronounciation will be very poor even if your written chinese is good.Speaking good mandarin is important for our oral, and helps with commuinication with other non English-speaking Chinese.
i think that speaking mandarin at home helps to promote bilingualism.Speaking chinese will help us in our oral the more practice the better. Moreover it will help us in communicating for business when we grow up.But we must be careful because we may get it mix up with dialects and speak wrong han yu pin yin.
Meh time to do work T.T My thoughts: I think speaking mandarin at home helps promote bilingualism. Speaking good chinese helps improve your Mother Tongue results and your oral. Speaking Madarin can also help communicate with people that only speak chinese and it also helps you improve your understanding of our chinese ancestors through idioms.
I think it would help as you can improve your oral with that. And also,China economy is growing very well,so when u grow up,you can do better bussiness. But my family doesn't talk to me in chinese as they do not know how to.
I think that speaking Mandarin at home can help in our bilingualism. It is very important as it may help us in the future or studies. But, there problems such as having family who does not speak chinese except you. For those who has siblings are fortunate but those who are the only child it will be a big problem.
I think that speaking chinese at home will help us improve our chinese.Everybody should know how to speak good chinese as we will use it in everyday life.
I think speaking chinese at home helps us improve our chinese. We use chinese in our lives and if we can't speak proper chinese,it may affect our future.
I think it is important as the majority of the children in Singapore have Chinese parents, grandparents etc. It would be very hard to communicate to people who are born in China as Chinese is their official language. Also, if we are co-operating with Chinese (China) for some kind of business we can also speak to them the same way as we did at home.
I feel that learning Chinese at a young age helps a lot when we grow a lot. We will understand Chinese better and will not struggle with Chinese in life.
I think speaking Chinese at home will halp us to improve the Chinese language, also can improve our Chinese Oral(Not for me, everyday my mother want me to speak English.)
I feel that speaking chinese will help improve my chinese as it will help in oral.I also feel that speaking chinese will also help us when we grow up and maybe we need to go to China. We will also know more about our orgins(not counting foriegners and other races).

ReplyDeleteI think it will help us speak in alternative ways so we can have a social relation ship with chinese speaking people
